    FOCUS OF SESSION

Passing to maintain possession, with an emphasis on first touch

TEAM FEEDBACK Comments related to previous game / session

I noticed during our previous game we had difficulty keeping possession in the back and middle third of the field. If we keep giving possession away easily then we are attacked more often. ….. Tonight we are going to work on possession.

    TRAINING: 6 X 10 or 15 minute activities

    Warm-up

    5 min

Shadow play – no ball, players pretend to move in a space changing speed, jogging backwards, etc as if in a game; (get heart rate up, include shoulder rolls, getting up and down from ground …)

    10 min

    §  Group of 3 – Player A, B and C, in a row 20 metre apart in a 10m wide grid

§  A passes to B, with C (behind B) applying gentle pressure; B is to ensure first touch is away from C; A should be passing the ball to B’s advantage; B returns pass to A who has moved along the back line away from original passing position

§  Swap roles after 7-10 attempts each

§  CP – insist on quality initial pass, insist on quality return pass, player A does not pass the ball until player B calls for it

    Goalkeeper Planning

    1. James

Loved how you tried to keep possession throughout the game

Your short passing was very accurate

ìFirst touch when receiving the ball.

Don’t have to always catch the ball. If too hard or awkward push it to the side or pat it down.

    2. Mary

Your effort in tracking back was a great example for others

Like your crossing into the box

ìTry to use your left foot more

    3. Kris

Good dribbling skills, especially when you ….

Like how you turned with the ball and then dribbled away.

ìTalking to your team, giving them extra information …
